Babysitters and nannies in Rabat, properly vetted

Ask families in Agdal or Hay Riad what they actually need and the answer is rarely a full-time nanny. It is the 3.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. block: collect from school, snack, homework, hold the fort until a parent gets back from the ministry or the embassy.

That shapes the market. A monthly school-run arrangement in Rabat runs 1,200 to 2,300 MAD, and it is the most competitive segment — several families want the same caregiver for the same three hours. If your child's school day ends at the standard hour, book early in the term rather than in November.

It also shapes what to screen for. Homework supervision in French, at a Moroccan or French-curriculum school, is a real skill and not every caregiver has it. Say which curriculum and which language the homework is in when you call; it changes the shortlist entirely.

Rabat asks for bilingual childcare more than any other Moroccan city, and demand outruns supply. French is common. Genuine working English is not, and the gap between "understands some English" and "can hold a bedtime routine in English with a four-year-old" is where most disappointments live.

Our position is to be blunt about it: we would rather tell you a profile is French-and-Darija than sell you an English level that collapses in week two. If English at home is the point of the hire, say so at the first call and expect to pay a premium over the 2,400-4,200 MAD full-time band.

One thing that genuinely helps in Rabat: diplomatic and international-organisation families rotate on a two-to-four-year cycle, and good caregivers circulate with them. A profile who has already worked for an anglophone household is worth more than a certificate, and we ask for those references specifically.

Law 19-12 governs domestic work in Morocco and applies in full regardless of nationality — including to diplomatic and international-organisation households, whose privileges cover their own status, not their private employment contracts.

A written contract is mandatory, on the regulatory template set by the labour authority: both parties, start date, duties, salary, hours, rest days, trial period. Take the trial-period length from the official template — the general labour code figure does not apply here.

CNSS registration is required from day one. Employer contributions are roughly 18-20 % of gross salary and open basic AMO health cover and pension rights. The procedure is documented by the CNSS under employeur de maison — déclaration de vos salariés (French).

Hours and leave: 10 hours of effective work per day maximum, one full rest day a week minimum, 18 days of paid annual leave. If you are posted here on a fixed term, write the end date and the notice period into the contract at signature — settling it at departure is how relationships that worked for three years end badly.
