Babysitters and nannies in Agadir, properly vetted

Hotel and restaurant shifts in Agadir start early, and no nursery opens at six. The result is a segment that barely exists elsewhere: early-morning cover, roughly 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., at 900 to 1,800 MAD a month — someone who arrives before you leave, gets the children up, fed and to school.

It is a demanding slot to fill, because it means the caregiver's own day starts at five. Two things make it work: hire someone who already lives in the same part of the city, and pay at the top of the band rather than the bottom. An early-morning arrangement that depends on a 40-minute commute at dawn will not survive the winter.

A full-time nanny in an apartment in Talborjt, Hay Mohammadi, Charaf or Dakhla runs 2,100 to 3,100 MAD a month. The same post in a villa or seafront property in Founty, the Marina, Illigh or Bensergao runs 2,700 to 4,000 MAD.

The gap reflects the work: bigger property, often a pool, and more frequent guests. If you have a pool and young children, ask every candidate at interview whether she can swim and whether she has had first-aid training. Neither is a given in Morocco, both are learnable, and the question belongs before the hire.

Agadir's own seasonality is worth planning around. Availability tightens sharply between roughly June and September, when experienced staff are absorbed by hotels and holiday lets at rates childcare does not match. If you need someone for the summer, recruit in April.

A good share of English-language demand here is short: a fortnight in a rental, evenings out, a day on the beach while parents work. We place that — 150 to 300 MAD for a full day, 100 to 250 MAD for an evening to midnight, plus the return trip after 10 p.m., which parents customarily pay.

Where it stops being a booking and becomes employment: recurrence. One week is a booking. The same caregiver, the same hours, most weeks across months, is an ongoing employment relationship under Law 19-12 however it is described — with a written contract, capped hours, weekly rest, paid leave and CNSS registration. Families who winter in Agadir every year should read that line twice.

Law 19-12 applies in full regardless of nationality or length of stay.

A written contract is mandatory, on the regulatory template set by the labour authority: parties, start date, duties, salary, hours, rest days, trial period. Take the trial period from the official template — the general labour code figure does not apply to domestic work.
